Getting in & around

For those of you flying in from abroad, there are 3 main ways to get to Celle Ligure:

Milan - Malpensa (MXP), Linate (LIN), or Orio al Serio (BGY) airports, all roughly 2 hours away

  • By car - rent a car from the airport

  • By train - head to Stazione Centrale (with Malpensa Express (from MXP), a cab (from LIN), or a bus (from BGY)). Then, take a direct train to either Savona or Varazze, and either change to a regional train for the final 2 stops to Celle, or get a 15-minute taxi. You can book all trains here: trenitalia.com

Nice (NCE) - airport about 2 hours away from Celle

  • By car - rent a car directly from the airport

  • By train - take a French train to Ventimiglia (bookable here: sncf-connect.com), and then change to an Italian one to Celle (bookable here: trenitalia.com)

Genova (GOA) - it has fewer international flights, but it’s the closest airport at just 30 minutes

  • By car - to rent

  • By taxi - will run about 100 euros

  • By train - take a taxi to the train station (either Genova Brignole or Principe), and then take a regional train directly to Celle

Lodging

To make your weekend as smooth and enjoyable as possible, we recommend staying in the town of Celle Ligure. Since Celle is quite small, whether you book in the town center or at Piani di Celle, everything will be within easy reach. Unfortunately, Uber isn’t available in the area, and while there are some taxis, the supply can be quite limited. Keep in mind that while some spots just north of the coast may look close on the map, they can be harder to access on foot due to the hilly terrain.

Both the beach club for Friday’s welcome party and the church for Saturday’s ceremony are within easy walking distance from anywhere in Celle. As the reception will take place in the hills, we will be providing shuttle transportation from the church to the reception after the ceremony, as well as return trips to town throughout the night. We want you to relax and enjoy yourselves to the fullest!

💛Update💛

Hotel San Michele has agreed to block a number of rooms for our guests, guaranteeing availability for a two-night stay, until April 30th. To book one, email guglielmo@hotel-sanmichele.it and specify that you will be attending Arianna & Mathias’ wedding. (After April 30th, their rooms will only be available for 3-night minimum stays).

Besides San Michele, we recommend checking Booking.com and Airbnb for the latest availability. Do keep in mind that since this will be the last weekend of high season in Italy, it would be best to book your accommodation sooner rather than later.

Local Recommendations

If you have some extra time to spend in the area, here are our personal recommendations on things to see, do, and eat:

Celle

Activities:

Enjoy a day or more at the beach at Bagni Olimpia Vittoria - get your tan on, have a nice lunch, and rent a paddleboard for a tour on the water.

Hike up Monte Beigua, located above the nextdoor town Varazze, to enjoy some fresh mountain air and stunning views of the Ligurian coastline.

Play some tennis at Tennis Club Lavadore before jumping in the sea again.

Drive to nearby Finale Ligure to go mountain biking on world-class trails, with routes for all levels - from scenic coastal rides to adrenaline-filled downhill tracks through rugged terrain.

Food:

No trip to Liguria is complete without focaccia and trofie al pesto.

Get your focaccia fix at Focacceria della Piazza, and make sure to try both some focaccia normale and some with onions. Bonus if you dip it in cappuccino for breakfast, as the locals do (only the plain type though…)

Cool down with a creamy gelato from Gelso Nero, or I Giardini di Marzo (a former gelato world cup winner).

Sip on a spritz with some nibbles for aperitivo at Bistrot 27, or right by the sea at Bagni Olimpia Vittoria.

Finally, savor some fresh local seafood at A’ Lanterna or La Risacca - and if you want to treat yourself, A’ Spurcacciuna in Savona will certainly deliver.

Rest of Liguria

Liguria is a region brimming with stunning sights and unforgettable experiences:

Start your adventure with a hike along the Sentiero Azzurro in Cinque Terre, where you’ll be treated to sweeping views of terraced vineyards and charming, colorful villages perched above the sea.

In Portofino, climb up to Castello Brown or walk to the lighthouse at Punta del Capo for panoramic vistas. Afterward, savor some freshly caught seafood at one of the quaint harbor restaurants.

For a dose of history, head to Genova , a city with a perfect blend of old-world charm and vibrancy. Explore the majestic palaces on Via Garibaldi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and get lost in the narrow alleys of the Caruggi, where you’ll find hidden gems like traditional trattorias serving trofie al pesto.

If you love scenic routes, hop on the train between La Spezia and Monterosso for spectacular coastal views. Prefer a slower pace? Spend a relaxing afternoon in Camogli, Sestri Levante, or Portovenere, picturesque seaside towns ideal for unwinding on the beach or indulging in local delicacies.
